One of the most frequent reasons that we are called by members of the public,  is because they can hear a noise in the attic.

Rustlings and scrabbling in your roof space are definitely a cause for concern and are likely to be from one of four different causes

- Bats
- Mice
- Rats
- Squirrels

Bats are protected and do not chew on your electrical cables.  The remaining three animals are very different.

Rats, mice and squirrels:

Birds:

Sometimes birds will gain access to a roof space and build a nest there.  It is a good idea to deny access to the birds, and you may be happy to wait until they have raised their babies before doing so.

Insects:

Occasionally you will hear noises from an insect infestation.  Wasps like to nest in attics and can sometimes be heard as they scrape at the plaster which separates them from your living space.   This needs urgent attention as if wasps breach the barrier between you,  the resulting invasion can be frightening and hazardous.
